Near the Colosseum, in the Basilica of San Clemente, lie the relics of Saint Ignatius of Antioch, one of the most revered martyrs of the early Church. This unique site in Rome preserves three levels: a Roman house with a mithraeum, a 4th-century paleochristian church, and the medieval basilica built in the 12th century. In this video we explore its history: the witness of Saint Ignatius and his letter to the Church of Rome, the figure of Saint Clement —fourth Pope and martyr— and the meaning of this place for the origins of Christianity.
