Saint Philip Neri and Saint Charles Borromeo in the Catholic Reformation

  7:12
Saint Philip Neri was one of the key figures of the spiritual renewal of 16th-century Rome. Known for his contagious joy and for his profound experience of the Holy Spirit in the Catacombs of Saint Sebastian, he formed generations of Christians: lay people, founders, and saints such as Camillus de Lellis, Charles Borromeo and Felix of Cantalice. In the building that today houses the Library of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, he lived for 33 years and founded the famous Oratory, a lay movement that transformed the spiritual life of the city and gave birth to the musical genre we now call “oratorio.” The video also highlights Saint Charles Borromeo, one of the great architects of the Catholic Reformation and a key figure in the conclusion of the Council of Trent. His pastoral leadership in Milan set a model that shaped the Church in Europe and beyond.
